Hello friends, before I start this topic, I am giving verses 8, 9, and 10 of the 17th chapter of the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita, which explains the importance of food rules in Ayurveda.

स्निग्धाःस्थिरा हृद्याआहाराः सात्त्विकप्रियाः।।

Meaning of Shloka: Food
that is most dear to a sattvic person is that which enhances the quality of life,
purifies life, and gives strength, health, happiness, and contentment. And such
food is juicy, smooth, healthy, and pleasing to the heart.

राजसस्येष्टा दुःखशोकामयप्रदाः।।

 Meaning of Shloka: Very
spicy, sour, salty, hot, dry, and fire-producing food is dear to the Rajogun people.
And eating like this causes pain, suffering, and disease.

गतरसं पूति पर्युषितं च यत्।

चामेध्यं भोजनं तामसप्रियम्।।

Meaning of Shloka: Food
cooked three hours before meal, tasteless, rotten, stale food is a
favorite of
people who are tamasi.

Now let us discuss the 5 rules of
eating according to Ayurveda. These rules are very important to follow while

Rule 1: Chew more and eat

You should eat food by chewing. There is a saying about
this, see – eat less, chew more. According to Ayurveda, when eating a meal or
eating any food, it should be chewed 32 times. And if you can’t chew 32 times,
then you must chew the food at least 20 times. This does not mean that you
should start counting and eating while eating. Simply, we have to chew the food
so hard that it can be swallowed by a comfortable throat. This will make the
food easier to digest. And the benefits of food will be reaped.

Rule 2: Keep the balance of food, water, and air in the body

According to Ayurveda, we should fill our stomachs with
50% of food, 25%  of water, and the
remaining 25% for air. This makes it easier to digest food and improves your
digestion. And by improving health one gets rid of diseases.

Rule 3: Don’t eat after sunset

According to Ayurveda, one should not eat after sunset.
Because, after sunset, the fire in your stomach slows down. And the ability to
digest food is reduced. This is because lunch is often done. After all, the sun is
shining brightly at this time.

But looking at today’s lifestyle, it is impossible to do
so. That’s why you should have a meal 4 hours before going to bed. Schedule
your meal according to your routine. For example, if you go to bed at 11 pm
every night, you should have dinner at 7 pm. This means that there should be a
gap of about 4 hours between meal and bedtime.

Dinner should always be light to digest. And it should be
less and lighter than lunch.

Rule 4: Have a natural meal

Ayurveda says that the food we eat every day should not
be artificial. That is, fruits and vegetables, and grains should be cooked and
eaten in their original form. And that which is packaged, in which the
preservative is obtained, and which is kept in the fridge for many days. Such
food should not be eaten. Because such food is harmful to our health.

Eat raw vegetables, fruits, and salads as part of your
meal. And if it is convenient or you can afford it, you should have a nice
breakfast of sprouted seeds and grains in the morning.

Rule 5: Order or cycle of eating.

According to Ayurveda, there is an order of eating. Which
we must follow. There are 6 Tastes in your diet. Which should be used
sequentially in your meal. Meals should start with sweets. But nowadays we eat
sweets at the very end of the meal. And this is wrong.

After eating sweets, you should eat sour. And after
eating sour, eat salty, and after eating pungent, eat bitter. And at the end of
the meal, we should eat astringent food. This means that the order of the meal
should be as follows.

If you are healthy, you should use
the above 6 juices in your meal. And if you are unwell, you should use these
juices in your meals according to your health.

If you follow all these 5 rules, you
will get rid of many stomach ailments like stomach heaviness, gas,
constipation, and dysentery and you can save yourself from various such ailments.

Friends, to keep your health in order, and to get rid of
diseases, you should follow the 5 rules of eating according
to our ancient scriptures Ayurveda. And improve your health.

Because health is
the real wealth. Life will be better when you have to take care of this wealth.
